CARBON COUNTY JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
Position Title: Legal Administrator
Wage: DOE
Position Summary:
Provides criminal justice services to victims and witnesses of crimes; performs related duties as required.
Provides assistance to county attorneys, interacts with the public (in person, electronically, and telephonically) on behalf of the county attorney office.
Assists county attorneys with preparing documents, calendaring, and distributing legal discovery.
Knowledge & Skills:
Preferred, but not required: Paralegal certification.
Required:
Competence in typing, drafting, and grammar, ability to clearly communicate with others, and analytical reading and comprehension skills.
Knowledge and understanding of: Understanding of or ability to learn legal and court policies, procedures, practices, terminology, and systems; Cycles and consequences of violence to victims and their families; Emotional and psychological needs of the victims of violence; Criminal justice system and related Montana state laws; Basic criminal law and its application to crime victims; Relevant federal and state laws, rules and procedures; Crime victims rights; Available community resources for social, medical and economic purposes; General office practices and procedures; Standard formats for legal and business correspondence, court orders and jury instructions;
Skill to: Utilize current crisis intervention models with victims; Deal with the public in highly stressful situations; Work with victims and relaying empathy while providing information and support; Maintain the confidentiality of victims and witnesses.
Ability to: Work independently, quickly and calmly in emergencies, applying good judgment in crisis situations; Communicate effectively and well with others, both verbally and in writing; Relate well with victims of and witnesses to provide support during periods of high stress; Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with assigned attorneys, other Victim/Witness Coordinators, other office employees, other employees in the Countys legal, court, and service systems, law enforcement, defense attorneys and investigators, the medical community, and the general public; Work with and relate effectively to people of different cultures, races, and socio-economic backgrounds; Understand and render clear explanation of legal procedures and policies; Understand and execute complex oral and written instructions; Use of Microsoft Windows based applications; computer based legal research; use of the internet; and ability to set up complex databases; and Organize and prioritize heavy workloads with critical and time sensitive deadlines.
