About the Role
The Chief Operating & Human Resources Officer will be responsible for overseeing critical operational areas including human resources, facilities, safety, IT, and a suite of educational and conservation programs. This role is deeply focused on people leadership, charged with nurturing a collaborative, high-performing culture through staff development and effective cross-functional coordination. The CO&HRO will strategically guide internal operations while aligning processes and policies with the organization’s mission and values, especially those related to equity, diversity, and inclusion. This position manages a team currently comprising eight staff across operations and program departments, playing a central role in strategic planning, organizational effectiveness, and mission alignment. Candidates must bring at least 10 years' senior management experience in operational leadership, preferably within nonprofit environments such as museums, zoos, or educational institutions. A strong background in both human resources and facility operations is essential, along with a demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and inspire cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will be a motivating presence with proven skills in staff coaching, performance management, and creating high-engagement work environments. Experience aligning HR strategies with mission-driven objectives and advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion within the workplace is critical. Strong interpersonal, coaching, and organizational leadership abilities are key to success in this dynamic and community-focused role.
